 E.S. Ritchie & Sons, the world's leading marine compass manufacturer has recreated a limited number of their 5 inch ships box compass from the 1880's. The solid bronze compass bowl, bezel and gimbal rings are all cast from the original patterns. The craftsman at the Ritchie factory have even copied the original floating dial that won many scientific awards and a U.S. Patent for the first succesful liquid dampened compass.
The wooden box has been copied in detail. It has a fine furniture finish and includes a removable top with wooden alignment pins and brass security hooks.
A serial number is hand stamped into the bezel. This number, with your name will be entered into the log books kept at Ritchie that include historic vessels as "Old Ironsides" and "Monitor".
The Ritchie 1885 Ships Box Compass, when closed, measures 8-3/8" square by 5-1/2" high. It will be a prized possession adding beauty and function to any decor,from your coffee table to the helm of a yacht of a by-gone era.
