Short in Length, Long on Performance The 4.5" Newtonian reflector has always been popular for its all-around performance, modest size, and affordability. But we've improved this classic model by installing a corrector lens right into the focuser. This allows for a long effective focal length (1000mm, f/8.8) in an optical tube about half just 18" long. The result is a telescope that is just as powerful as the standard 4.5" but far more portable. The 4.5"-diameter primary mirror collects a lot of light, revealing a wealth of space treasures. The aluminum optical tube is held securely on an EQ-1 equatorial mount by cast-metal tube rings equipped with quick-release clamps. The EQ-1 mount is equipped with dual slow-motion controls, but also accepts an optional electronic drive for automatic star tracking. |
